I've had a wonderful time browsing hundreds of images, and read so many storys, happy and sad, and this is a subject I will never tire of for so many reasons.

What is crystal clear is that the bonds between people and the sense of community, in the early to mid 1900s, were amazing. Bonds formed mostly in the face of adversity, but some which have also stood the test of time.

We are now in the age of the 'virtual you', without which the average person would never find employment, and could not access the rest of the world without vast amounts of money. Having said that, I can understand why some would still trade what they have now to go back in time, because without the physical, the friends and the family, everything else can become meaningless. They were obviously brutal times, out of which most can still find fond memories. Today, the city is cleaner, the housing, although in very short supply, is generally nicer, and the number of unemployed people is nowhere near as great, but behind closed doors are many lonely people.

Somewhere on Henrietta Street, another house is being saved.

All across the city are people who long to be with people
