Out with the Wealthy

The Kings Inns, where barristers are trained and earn their qualifications, originally added prestige to Henrietta Street. But once the wealthy migrated, the North became badly run down. By 1952 the houses had become tenements.

Film crews gained lots of new locations for producing documentary on post war London or Berlin, Mountjoy Square being one, as it was badly run down. Photographers also had plenty to focus on, and thankfully their work has been preserved. The photo below was taken by the reknowned French film maker and photographer, Henri Cartier-Bresson, who passed away in 2004.

The photograph is of children playing outside tenements in Dublin, possibley Henrietta Street, but unconfirmed.
